Answers

  1. Where does the data for this Website come from?

  2. The data for this Website comes compiling the results from each individual swim meet. Every week, we collect the results from the previous weekend's swim meets. We currently have a collection of over 10,000 swim meet results from the most recent seasons.

  3. Is the data for this Website from the USA Swimming Website?

  4. This Website does not take the swimmer's event times directly from the USA Swimming Website. As far as we know, there is no automated access to a swimmer's event times on the USA Swimming Website. The only way to access information is to fill out a form with the swimmer's name, date range and event. We do not have a way to bypass the forms and directly access the USA Swimming SWIMS database.

  5. Where do you get the results for the individual swim meets?

  6. For the most part, we rely on the results that are posted by the Local Swimming Committees (LSC). Each LSC has its own Website. The results are usually posted on the LSC's Website shortly after the completion of a meet.

  7. Why is a meet result missing from this Website?

  8. There are several reasons why we have not included the results from a meet in this Website:
    1. The meet results have not yet been posted on the Local Swimming Committee (LSC) Website.
    2. The results are posted on LSC Website, but we have not had a chance to update the Website. It will typically take us 1 to 2 days to update the Website with the results from a recently posted meet.
    3. We mistakenly overlooked the meet results when they were posted on the LSC Website. If it has been more than 2 days since the results were posted, please send an email to swimmingrank@gmail.com and we will update the Website with the meet results.
    4. We were unaware of the meet or the meet occurs outside of the area that the Website supports. In this case, send an email to swimmmingrank@gmail.com and we will let you know if we can incorporate the results.

  9. Do I need to notify you that a swimmer has competed in a meet?

  10. Usually, the answer is no. We will automatically check the Local Swimming Committee's (LSC's) Website for the results from recent meets. However, if it has been more than 2 days since the meet results were posted, send an email to swimmingrank@gmail.com and we will let you know why we have not incorporated the meet results.

  11. Does this Website include the results from High School meets?

  12. We try to incorporate the results of High School meets that are sanctioned by USA Swimming. However, we do not normally check for High School meets, unless the meets are listed on the Local Swimming Committee's (LSC's) meet calendar. If you would like a High School meet to be included in this Website, please send an email to swimmingrank@gmail.com and we will see if we can get a copy of the meet results.

  13. Does this Website include the resuls from YMCA meets?

  14. We try to incorporate the results from YMCA meets that are sanctioned by USA Swimming. However, we do not normally check for YMCA meets, unless the meets are listed on the Local Swimming Committee's (LSC's) meet calendar. If you would like to have the results from a YMCA meet to be included in this Website, please send an email to swimmingrank@gmail.com and we will see if we can get a copy of the meet results.

  15. Does this Website include the results from National, Junior National and Zone meets?

  16. Yes, the Website includes the results from almost all of the major swim meets. If we are missing the results from a major meet, please send an email to swimmingrank@gmail.com and we will let you know why we have not incorporated the meet results.

  17. Does this Website include the results from meets that are outside the Local Swimming Committee (LSC) area?

  18. If the meet is outside of your Local Swimming Committee (LSC), but is in one of the other LSCs that this Website supports, then the Website will automatically incorporate the results (including those for out-of-area swimmers) when the meet results are posted by the hosting LSC. If the meet occurs in one of the LSCs that the Website does not support, then the answer is usually no. If this is a major meet, you can send an email to swimmingrank@gmail.com and we will see if we can get a copy of the meet results.

  19. Swimmer X has changed teams, why is he/she still showing up on the roster for his/her old team?

  20. We do not have access to the USA Swimming SWIMS database, so we do not know the swimmer's new team. On the meet results, the Swimmer will be listed as Unattached. Since, we do not know the new team, we keep the swimmer on his/her old team. As soon as the swimmer swims in a meet for the new team, this Website will automatically update the swimmer's affiliation to the new team. There are too many unattached swimmers, for us to manually update each swimmer to his/her new team.

  21. Swimmer X has aged up into a different Age Group, why is he/she still showing up in the rankings for his/her previous age group?

  22. This Website uses the same ranking criteria as is used by USA Swimming. For ranking purposes, a swimmer's event time reflects the swimmer's age when the event was swum, not the swimmer's current age. Consequently, when a swimmer ages up into a new Age Group during the season, the swimmer's previous event times will remain in the swimmer's old Age Group rankings. Any new event times achieved will be show up in the rankings for the swimmer's new Age Group. If the swimmer ages up during the current swim season, the swim ranking summary page will show both the rankings for the event times that the swimmer achieved in both the old Age Group and in new the Age Group.

  23. Why does a swimmer's event time on this Website differ from the swimmer's event time on the USA Swimming Website?

  24. This Website uses the meet results that are posted on on the Local Swimming Committee's (LSC's) Website. These results are "Unofficial". Occasionally , the results are corrected by the LSC prior to the results being submitted to USA Swimming. If there is a difference in the results between this Website and the USA Swimming Website, the USA Swimming results are always the official results. If you notice that there is a difference in a swimmer's event time from what is shown in the USA Swimming Website, please send an email to swimmingrank@gmail.com and we will correct this Website's event times.

  25. Why does a swimmer's 25 yard results disappear from this website once the swimmer turns 9 years old?

  26. Once a swimmer turns 9 years old, this website no longer tracks nor lists any of the times for the 25 yard events. This is because USA Swimming does not recognize the 25 yard events and only swimmers that are 8 and under are allowed to swim in 25 yard events. If you go to the USA Swimming website, you will not find any results nor rankings for the 25 yard events for any swimmer. I decided to rank the 25 yard events for younger swimmers to provide those swimmers with more events (many 8 and under swimmers only swim the 50 and 25 events). Once the swimmer turns 9 years old, I felt that the swimmer would be swimming in enough events that the 25 yard results were no longer necessary.

  27. Does this Website include altitude adjusted times?

  28. No. USA Swimming calculates the altitude adjustment to a swimmer's event times. This Website does not have access to the USA Swimming SWIMS database. This Website uses the meet results that are posted by the Local Swimming Commitee (LSC). These results do not have the altitude adjustment.

  29. Does this Website include Short Course Meter meets?

  30. No. Less than 5% of the meets that occur in the United States are Short Course Meter meets. Most swimmers will never compete in a Short Course Meter meet in their entire career. Consequently, a swimmer's ranking in Short Course Meter is not reflective of how the swimmer would rank in the entire swimming population in the United States. I decided to only support Long Course Meter and Short Course Yard meets on this website.

  31. Why does this Website show a swimmer's event time that is "impossibly" fast?

  32. When you see a swimmer's event time on this Website that is faster than a "world record" or too fast for a swimmer of a certain age to acheive, this is most probably the result of an error in the meet result file. This Website uses the meet results that are posted on on the Local Swimming Committee's (LSC's) Website. These results are"Unofficial". If there are errors in the meet results, these errors are either corrected by the LSC, when the results are submitted to USA Swimming, or by USA Swimming. If you notice that if a swimmer's event time is "too fast", please send an email to swimmingrank@gmail.com and we will investigate.

  33. I do not want Swimmer X to appear on this Website, can you remove Swimmer X from this Website?

  34. Yes. Please send an email to swimmingrank@gmail.com with the request, and we will remove Swimmer X from this Website within 48 hours.
